Accompanying images can be viewed in the July 2014 issue PDF

By P.L. Wolff

Mark your calendars and get ready for a weekend of local shopping, eating, sipping, listening, and people-watching, filled with special offers and promotions along U Street from 15th to 9th and south on 14th and with places to check out in the 1400 block of P and the 1300 block of Q.

What one can look forward to is participation by old and new retailers along with the popular old and new restaurants and art galleries. With street musicians, never-ending sidewalk sales, restaurant specials, and events throughout, this year’s event promises to be as much fun and as past years.

The sidewalk sales are expected to get going by 10 a.m. on Saturday and by 11 a.m. on Sunday and will continue to 4 p.m. both days. Up-to-date information will be available at www.facebook.com/midcitylife; for a human, one can call the nice people at Cork Market on 14th Street, 202-265-2674 (the owner is one of the key organizers). Of special note to check out will be the following:

  • Studio Theatre’s annual sidewalk sale of costumes, props, and more;
  • Street music performances throughout the area;
  • Restaurant Specials — beat the heat and stop in your favorite places for food and drink specials all this weekend;
  • Open Houses –- Check out the galleries, shops and other establishments for snacks, giveaways, and events throughout both days.
