Dupont East’s Annual High Heel Race Set for Tuesday Night, Oct. 26th

Now in its 25th year, contestants will sprint (as best as high heels will allow!) from the R Street starting line to the usual hilarious Church Street finish line out front of JR’s Bar & Grill. While the actual race is brief, crowds congregate well ahead of the 9 p.m. starting gun to be regaled by the contestants’ over-the-top outrageous costumes. Contestants must register at Level One/Cobalt at 1639 R Street. The three-block stretch of street will be closed to traffic starting at 6 p.m. and will reopen between 10 & 10:30 p.m. Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, one of the event sponsors, will be contributing to the costs and handling the clean-up.

A tented VIP standing area is being reserved for just 50 ticket holders right at the finish line where everything will be able to easily be seen without the huge crowds blocking the view; come and go as you want — arrive early to watch the parading of contestants, or just before the start, and grab a spot to watch the exciting finish with your close friends. And when the race is over, while the contestants mingle with the festive crowd, the VIP ticket includes a “Bar Fast Pass” that gets you to the front of the line outside JR’s Bar & Grill, 30 Degrees, and Cobalt.

Proceeds from these $40 tickets help to defray the enormous cost, which includes permit fees and other city charges; tickets can be purchased online at with a confirmation email sent that will include information on where to pick up these “Will Call” tickets. For additional information, call (202)-441-1474.
