Ecuadorian Embassy Sustained Significant Earthquake Damage, August 23, 2011

Shown here is the damage done to the slate roof, chimneys, window dormers, and cornice of the embassy building at the corner

of Euclid and 15th Streets, directly across from Meridian Hill Park. In addition, not shown in these photos provided to The InTowner courtesy of Columbia Heights (and across-the-street) resident Thomas Palmer, is the debris that crashed down on a car in the driveway at the front and a third chimney that toppled into the alley.

Because of concern about the structural integrity of the building both 15th Street, a major northbound artery, and Euclid Street,  one of the very few east-west — and busy – streets linking Adams Morgan and the 14th Street corridor were closed to traffic.
