Late Morning Kitchen Grease Fire in Dupont East Causes Drama But No Disaster

The following was received from Phil Carney, The InTowner’s photographer

Late this morning — Tuesday the 4th — there was a kitchen restaurant grease fire at “Pizza no. 17” in the 1500 block of 17th Street NW. (See photo below.)

Fire Department responded promptly with the following:

Five fire trucks;
Three long ladder trucks;
Two ambulances;
Two Battalion Chiefs- #4 and 6;
Rescue Squad 2 truck;
Mobile Air Unit 1 truck.

Wow!

Fortunately no one was hurt. Java House’s Eddie said, “The fire was out by the time the Fire Department arrived- — just a lot of smoke.”

The excitement kept photographers busy.
