In a time when the airwaves are filled with political messaging we can’t forget about the 3rd annual 17th Street Festival on Saturday afternoon, September 22nd. This volunteer-run event, produced by the Urban Neighborhood Alliance and Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, is a time for us to celebrate the shops, schools, restaurants, clubs, parks, arts and folks of Dupont East’s 17th Street corridor.

So many people ask what makes this festival unique? Well, everyone will find something to have fun with –- whether it is the 50 local artists in the Art Show, to the adoption event in the City Dogs Rescue Pet Zone, to the face painting in the DCJCC Kids Zone, or the band on the entertainment stage.

With the focus on the businesses of 17th Street the organizers the organizers are not including outside businesses without approval from 17th street businesses. Be sure to check out the array of business specials being offered — just look for the banners provided free to the participating establishments.

In response to reactions from last year’s festival-goers, this year a full two hours has been added so that the fun will start at 12 noon and run through to 6 pm. 17th and adjacent streets will be closed with no parking from starting at 10 am through 8 pm.

For more information on what will be happening in each zone visit www.17thstreetfestival.org or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/17thstreetfestival or on Twitter @17thstfestival.

The festival could not happen without the support of the community and the sponsors which include the following: the Washington Blade, Coldwell Banker Dupont, Ross Elementary School, DCJCC, Cobalt, Level One, Borderstan.com, Luis Gomez Photography, Dupont Circle Citizens Association, Stonewall Kickball, Marriage DC, Grubb’s NW Pharmacy, Comcast, PEPCO, and Whitman-Walker Health.

We look forward to seeing all of you on September 22nd for an event that will bring the 17th Street community together and showcase everything we have to offer!
