Technology for Older Adults to be Focus of Dupont Circle Village Program

Mon., Aug. 26 (3:30-5pm): The Dupont Circle Village will be hosting another of its monthly Live and Learn Seminar programs, open to the public, this month in the conference room at the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (1734 N St., NW). For reservations, contact Linda Harsh, (202) 234-2567, or by email to lindajkh@mac.com. The talk is free for Village members and $10 for others.

The program this month will focus on technology for older adults and will address such questions as what is the most effective personal emergency response system?; how can a medication dispenser system help me?; is it possible to video, amplify or caption my telephone?; what other technological systems are now available?

These and many more questions will be addressed by Dr. Majd Alwan, Senior Vice President and Executive Director at the LeadingAge Center for Aging Services and Technologies (CAST). He will explain new developments in fall detection and prevention, telehealth and remote patient monitoring and electronic health records. Dr. Alwan is a senior member of the IEEE’s Engineering in Medicine and Biology and Robotics and Automation Societies and also a member of IEEE-USA’s Medical Technology Policy Committee and the Geriatric Care Workgroup. His research interests are passive functional and health assessment, biomedical instrumentation and medical automation.
