60th Year of Stead Park to be Celebrated with Anniversary Party

Sat., Nov. 16 (10:30am-12:30pm): Friends of Stead Park will be hosting a family-friendly celebration to commemorate this big anniversary at the park located on P Street between 16th and 17th Streets. Dedicated in November of 1953 and intended to appeal to families, this was the District’s very first unsegregated park. It has been a community resource ever since and is about to undergo a major revitalization project.

The celebration, sponsored by Whole Foods and hosted in partnership with Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, Logan Circle Citizens Association, and Moms in Logan Circle, will include family-friendly performers, hot cider, coffee, snacks, face-painting, and balloon art . For more info, contact kishan.putta@dupontcircleANC.net; also visit www.FriendsOfSteadPark.org and facebook.com/FriendsOfSteadPark.

Residents will also be able to take a “virtual tour” of the exciting renovations coming to the one-acre playing field behind the playground, including a running track, a splash park, a performance stage, benches and shade-trees, and new entrances from 16th and 17th Streets.
