Society of the Cincinnati Hosting Two Free Lectures June 19th & 20th

These lectures are being presented by the Society’s American Revolution Institute at its historic Anderson House library and museum (2118 Mass. Ave., NW. On Thursday evening , the 19th at 6 pm the topic will be about the U.S. Navy during the War of 1812. William M. Fowler, Jr., professor of history at NortheasternUniversity, will discuss the War of 1812 at sea, focusing on the upstart U.S. Navy’s impressive string of victories over warships of the Royal Navy. And on Friday at 12:30 pm the topic will be 18th and 19th century history textbooks. The Society’s library assistant , Alexis Yorczyk, will examine how children learned about the Revolutionary War during the late 18th and through the 19th centuries. The presentation will focus on period textbooks, specifically looking at the sources used and how the war’s events were interpreted.
