Andy Miller Bio Note

Andrew Miller graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Christopher Newport University in May 2010. While at CNU, he studied under Dr. Jeffrey Brown and Dr. Amanda Halstead. During his tenure, he won the Concerto/Aria competition twice and had the privilege of performing Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto and the Gershwin Concerto in F with the Christopher Newport University Orchestra. For his performances in the annual Friends of Music Scholarship Recital, Andrew won the first place prize and was voted two times for the “People’s Choice” award. He performed in TheaterCNU’s production of Urinetown as a member of the “Pit Stop Band” and was Assistant Musical Director for their production of Little Shop of Horrors. During his junior year, he was chosen by the faculty to be inducted into the honorary music fraternity Pi Kappa Lambda, which recognizes students for their academic and musical accomplishments. In addition to his studies, he was a member of the CNU Marching Captains and during his senior year, he was selected to be a drum major for the 2009 season.

Andrew began studying at George Mason University in 2011 and completed his M.M. in Performance under the tutelage of Dr. Anna Balakerskaia in May 2013. He won the GMU Concerto Competition in 2013 and performed Rhapsody in Blue in the Young Masters Concert later that May. He is a current doctoral candidate in his first year of the D.M.A. program in piano performance at GMU.

In addition to his keyboard studies, Andrew maintains a private studio of 30 local students as well as working as a vocal coach/accompanist for both the Eastern Virginia School for the Performing Arts (2009-2010), and within the GMU private studios (began in 2011). He is a native of the Northern Virginia area, having grown up in Springfield, and is an active performer within the area as a soloist and chamber musician.
