Faith Zúñiga Bio Note

Faith Zúñiga is a Master of Music student at George Mason University, where she studies with Dr. Anna Balakerskaia. She has studied at the Conservatory of East Central Illinois; the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan; the Instituto Superior de Artes in San Jose, Costa Rica; the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello in Venice, Italy; the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and Indiana University at South Bend. Faith Zúñiga was a 1st Prize winner of the 2014 George Mason University Concerto Competition, for which she performed Prokofiev’s Concerto No. 1 with the GMU Symphony in May of 2014. She will perform Beethoven’s Concerto No. 5 with the GMU Symphony on December 7, 2014. She also won 1st Place in the 2013 UIUC Clara Rolland Undergraduate Piano Competition. She won many other music awards and recognitions at UIUC, including the Nancy Kennedy Wustman Memorial Award in Vocal Accompanying, the Andrew De Grado Memorial Scholarship, the Carolyn Mitchell Davy Award, the Piano Pedagogy Division Award, and the Geraldine B. Cooke Scholarship, in addition to being selected to perform on the Freshman and Sophomore Honors Recital. Additional competition awards include Semifinalist in the Victor Elmaleh Concert Artists Guild Competition, Semifinalist in the Byrd International Piano Competition, 2nd Place in the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, and Honorable Mention in the Southern Illinois Young Artist Organization Instrumental Competition. Faith Zúñiga took part in the inaugural edition of the Valencia International Piano Academy in Spain, where she studied with teachers from Juilliard, Peabody, and the Madrid Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia. A native of Illinois, Faith Zúñiga has performed in Costa Rica, Italy, Spain, and the United States.
